The original wheel, graduated dial and the spring clip that I had to fabricate after I lost the original.
enlarged handwheel that I made in the foreground. It press-fits over the small one.
A view of the back side of the original handhweel, which shows why it's easier to press-fit the new one on the old one rather than try to precisely re-create all of the shoulders and cuts. The spring clip is in place here.
The cross slide with handwheel removed. The little tab that goes into the keyway on the wheel is VERY easy to lose - it's a crescent shape thing just sitting there in a crescent shaped slot milled out for it.

This lathe has graduated from the Steve Bedair school of 9X20 mods - visible in this photo is the quick change tool post (I used a wedge rather than piston type however), four bolt compound clamp and enlarged handwheel.

A picture of the arbor press used to press the handwheels together.

The lathe, cleaned up and pretty with all the mods done.
General 9X20 lathe with mods photo. The new handle allows adequate room for the carriage travel handle, there is enough room to grip the carriage handwheel with your thumb and turn it, without hitting the new cross slide handwheel.
